Dolby Atmos is a surround sound technology developed by Dolby Laboratories Inc. and was first introduced in the Hollywood film Brave in 2012. Dolby Atmos technology breaks from the conventional channel-based sound system and renders sounds in a virtual 3D space. Dolby has also introduced the concept of "audio objects," each of which can be precisely placed and moved in the space, which enables a lifelike immersive sound experience.
Unlike stereo sound with only two channels or two speakers, Dolby Atmos leverages multiple audio channels and the entire space for the precise placement and movement of audio objects during playback, putting you right in the center of your entertainment.
As a step further from the conventional 5.1 or 7.1 system, Dolby Atmos creates a spatial sound experience, allowing creatives to pinpoint each instrument or sound in the virtual 3D space for a more realistic and immersive audio experience.
